Minnan-Wong, Denzil    "Denzil Minnan-Wong is currently the City Councillor for Don Valley East (Ward 34) in the City of Toronto. Since joining North York Council in 1994, Denzil has worked diligently for the residents of Ward 34 and the City of Toronto. He is a strong believer in the need for greater transparency and accountability for the taxpayer and consistently advocates for keeping taxes down.

Denzil is a leader at City Hall and in his community. He has served on some of the most important committees at City Hall. Currently, he sits as the Chair of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee overseeing a portfolio that includes garbage collection, water and road maintenance. He is also a member of the City’s Executive Committee and serves on the Employee and Labour Relations Committee, and the Civic Appointments Committee.

In past terms of office, Denzil has been the Chair of the Economic Development Committee, and the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Committee. He has also chaired the North York Community Council and played important roles on the Planning and Transportation Committee, the Community Services Committee, the Works and Emergency Services Committee, the Audit Committee, the Toronto and Regional Conservation Board, the Toronto Transit Commission, the Toronto Library Board, the Toronto Financial Service Advisory Committee and the SARS Recovery Task Force.

Locally, Denzil has worked as a volunteer for the North York General Hospital Foundation and the Toronto Police 33 Division Community Liaison Committee. He sponsors annual community clean-up days, has annual skating parties and created the Community Spirit Award. Denzil continues to work with schools and community groups in Ward 34 to improve safety and traffic, especially in school zones. He also works with neighbourhood residents to oppose development applications that are not in keeping with the community.

Denzil is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and a lifetime resident of Don Valley East where he resides with his wife Colleen, their two daughters, Sally and Erin, and dog Strider."[1]
