LaRocque, Luke | "When it comes to specific needs for Ward 2, I think we need to work for:
|
"Luke is a father, husband, and community developer. He grew up and has spent most of his life in north Etobicoke, and knows that it's one of the best places to live in Toronto. Like any good community, its diversity, community institutions, and mix of residential and business areas form its foundation and make it unique. Luke is passionate about supporting the community and will work hard to make sure that you’ll see a positive difference in the neighbourhood.
Covering a broad range of experiences, Luke has worked with marginalized youth and refugees, managed independent arts organizations, and started his own business. He studied at the University of Toronto and has a Master’s degree with a focus on urban and international development. He has worked and volunteered with communities both here in Rexdale with a local road hockey league and abroad, with a relief organization in Malawi, Africa. Having actively volunteered throughout his life, today he supports the work of Sanctuary Toronto and Matthew House. He is an advocate for the cultural sector, having worked as a producer and actor before moving into community development. He is also on the Board of Directors for Glasswater Theatre, which he co-founded in 2011. As a member of many communities, Luke knows how important it is to have a city government that truly represents its people—one that actively engages with all residents of the city, seeks their input, and listens to their concerns and ideas. The important decisions made at City Hall should reflect the needs and diversity of our great city, and north Etobicoke in particular. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be sharing some of his ideas for the ward and we hope that you’ll share yours as well. Together, we can make a better Toronto." |
