Emerson, Charmain "It's time to put Community First. We need a councillor who responds to the people who live and work in Parkdale-High Park. We need practical results on the nitty gritty details of the ward, as mundane as they may be. It’s time for change at City Council.  We need people who create consensus, not partisan dogfights. It’s time to get things done."[1] "Charmain Emerson is a businesswoman, former broadcaster & provincial cabinet advisor, a volunteer and longtime Ward 14 resident raising three boys with her husband, George, in Parkdale - High Park.

I’m a Parkdale mom who gets things done. I’ve put community first all my life: raising our three boys, serving seniors, fighting school closure, advocating for women & minorities, building a company and creating jobs. My record is results. I'm non-partisan and practical. Like my Parkdale immigrant parents, I’ve worked hard to improve my circumstances and my community."[1]

"Who am I? My family immigrated to Parkdale when I was two. My father was among the first black TTC drivers. My mother was a nurse at Sick Kids. They also moonlighted, working around the clock to get ahead. I’m so proud of my parents and how Canada rewards initiative.

I came back to Parkdale to raise my own family after university. I started in broadcasting, and then worked at Queen’s Park as a minster’s advisor in Bob Rae’s government. Later, I worked from home when our three boys were little, but as my communications business grew, I opened an office on King St. My many clients ranged Great Wolf Lodge (my kids loved that!) to Catalyst, a non-profit helping women break through glass ceilings in corporations.

When I got cancer a few years ago, I helped place my employees with my competitors (stay friendly with rivals!), and closed the business. I took time to recover – and thank goodness for Canadian health care. When I was ready, a former client asked me to join her executive team. I love my job but I am very concerned about what’s going wrong in Toronto, the lack of accountability in elected officials, the lack of results on the big files that need doing. I feel blessed to have this opportunity to make a positive change for this incredibly diverse, constantly changing ward. Thank you for considering me!"[1]

Kirby, Tim "Similar challenges for the City are being described by all candidates. The big issues; transportation, budgets, services, heritage, parks, bikes, jobs etc are on my mind too. But right now - I want to hear from you"[1] "Tim Kirby wants the privilege of serving you as your City Councillor in Ward 14.  With over 25 years of living in this community, Tim understands the Parkdale-HighPark community.  He has lived, breathed and worked, just like you, to make it a better place for his family.

This community is like no other.  Tim has lived in several neighbourhoods in this area, including Queen West, King West and Roncesvalles Avenue.  From 1990 to today, Tim has seen changes and growth.  The experience of living here is not like living anywhere else, and that makes Tim the ideal candidate to represent you at City Hall."[1]

Koutoumanos, Gus   "Gus was born in Midland and raised in Orillia and Huntsville before coming to Toronto in 1984. After high school, he went on to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University. He worked at TD bank until 1999 before starting his own business as a mortgage agent. With his family, he opened Shoxs Sports Saloon in 1995 in the then “dry” junction and along with the overwhelming support of our junction neighbours was successful in making the area “wet” in November 2000. Gus now wants to take his skills to City Hall and apply his experience to help residents and businesses in Ward 14 and across Toronto."[1] Gus Koutoumanos's fully developed website is http://www.ward14gus.ca/.  Learn about him and his policy priorities there.
