  • Guest (TO21)

    Some questions:
    1. Should we privatize parts of our libraries or close libraries?
    2. Should we privatize certain TTC routes as done in London and other cities to improve transit?
    3. Should we move to eliminate paper textbooks from the TDSB and transfer savings to rebuilding schools?

    from Toronto, ON, Canada
  • Hello TO21, sorry for my slow reply to your comment. We're looking into your questions but things have been busy the last few weeks. A few comments on your questions:
    1) I'm having trouble researching library closure discussions more recent than 2011. It looks like council had firmly decided not to proceed with library cuts. Are any candidates making this part of their platform?
    2) TTC privatization is an excellent question, we'll integrate it soon.
    3) I also see old information about the change to paper textbooks, and am looking for a couple more references before I move forward building a question.

  • Guest (Robert)

Should the Municipal Land Transfer Tax be phased out?

    from Toronto, ON, Canada
  • Developments should be required to OPEN to their communities and INVITE in their neighbours by incorporating community based infrastructure; ie. community centres, childcare, affordable housing units, small locally owned shops, patios, open markets, shared office space, max 5 stories - 6 metres back from border of wider sidewalks, townhouses, facades compatible with adjacent heritage structures, green space, art, performance space... Respect 4, Promotion of Local Heritage.

  • In a city that is primarily populated by visitors, newcomers and splintered family units or singles, it's important for civic pride and individual belonging to not only design neighbourhoods where people can work, shop, find childcare & recreation, steps from home, meeting their neighbours, but we need to research & promote local heritage, share the stories of a neighbourhood's past residents, experiences.
