How does the number of politically loyal voters in the United States affect the democratic process?

Many people in the US are loyal to a political party. This group of people includes anyone who knows how they are going to vote even before knowing who the candidates are or which political issues will come to the forefront of the campaign.

As the number of people in this position increases, there are consequences for the democratic process. Some of these consequences are beneficial for society and others are harmful. This question is intended to review the total consequence and determine if the net consequences are good or bad.

Political Loyalty is good for the democratic process

Political Loyalty is bad for the democratic process

Politically loyal individuals are required to provide support for the parties and spread information about the platforms and candidates. These dedicated participants in democracy are vital to ensure information and discussions continue throughout the country.

Many states have enough party loyalty that the politicians are no longer required to campaign in those areas because they feel confident of the outcome of the election in that area. This ensures that politicians only campaign based on issues that are important in the "swing states" and many parts of the US population are ignored as a consequence.
