On December 11, 2013, Canada Post announced they will be phasing out door-to-door delivery of envelope mail by 2019.  Mail will be delivered to community mail boxes, as is already done in some newer communities.  They are also raising the price of stamps from 63 cents to 85 cents for stamps purchased in booklets, and $1 individually as of March 2014.

Yes, Canada Post should eliminate door-to-door delivery of envelope mail

No, Canada Post should keep delivering envelope mail door-to-door.

This type of service has been in effect in many new communities for some time and has been working.

There are many elderly people which will have more difficulty checking their mailbox

Canada Post will be able to significantly reduce operating costs by transitioning from door-to-door to community mail box delivery in all urban areas. This puts an inconvenience on a greater number of people - if you multiply the number of people in a given area that will need to walk/drive to their mailbox just to check it, it will far exceed the effort of one mail person walking to doors to service that area.
Traditional mail delivery is on the decline due to modern information delivery via the Internet.

Other Factors for Discussion

Canada Post should also consider improvements / efficiencies in parcel delivery.
